Leonie’s eagerly-awaited new kayak arrived yesterday, and today we drove up to Loch Etive for the launch! It’s pure white, spotless and gleaming. (Well, it probably has a few bits of seaweed on it now!)
She’s absolutely over the moon with it. It fits her like a glove, and she was edging and doing various strokes as if she’d been paddling it for years. It’s very streamlined and low in the water, designed for efficiency and speed – as well as having three hatches, ideal for overnight expeditions.
We opened a bottle of bubbly but resisted the temptation to crack the bottle against the fibreglass hull!
Here are some photos… yes, she rolled it twice just to see how easy it was, and she came up with a massive smile on her face!
- “God bless her and all who sail in her!”
- Coming up from the roll
- She’ll love this one!
She said something about heading off around Scarba this weekend, which is destined to turn my hair white if nothing else will, but she’s going in the company of very experienced guides… hope she has good fun!

Congratulations to Leonie, what a lovely set of photos!! I bet you are both as proud of her as she looks in that new kayak.
Colin’s pack of Grouse are begining to materialise out of the snow. It’s like watching Startrek!!
All the best you all.
Peter
Hi Peter,
Thank you, yes she’s delighted with it – is probably living in it by now!
Colin is impressed with your appreciation of his technique. Actually when I come to think of it, I never see the grouse being painted but there’s always one more when he brings it down to scan it…
Best wishes, Jo
