As we were driving up to Mallaig to catch the ferry to Knoydart on Saturday, we made a brief detour and stopped at Arisaig on the west coast. Arisaig has white coral sands, with spectacular views across to the islands of Rum, Eigg and Skye beyond. The mountains that you can see in the distance (in the first photo) are the Cuillins of Skye.

Love the coral sand! Beautiful landscapes as always
Thank you! Arisaig is lovely, and we always wish we had more time there. Our daughter has spent some time kayaking around the coast in that region – she says it’s beautiful.
You live in a very beautiful country!
Yes, we do!
We’re very lucky.
Happy memories of holidays up there…the sand is so beautiful and the views so striking. I’ve never been out to Eigg, have you?
It is lovely – we always wish we had longer but we’re usually spending half an hour before the ferry. No, I’ve never been to Eigg or any of the Small Isles but I’d love to go.
Here in Australia there are people who are living remotely and who, like the people in this village, have to wait for deliveries of the essentials. They swap the convenience of city life for the beauty of their surroundings. Your post made me wonder just how many Scots people found their way inland here because they understood distance. Your photographs are superb. I would love to visit this region some day. Thankyou for this.
Thank you very much, Christine – that’s interesting. It could well be that those folks have Scottish roots. I hope you get a chance to visit Scotland some day!
Your last two posts paint a wonderful picture of that part of the world. I haven’t explored the west coast and the islands yet but your pictures and stories make me want to rectify that .
Thank you, Finn! I’m glad that it has inspired you to explore the west coast – it’s well worth it.
Boy it sure is pretty where you live!!!
It certainly is! Thanks for your comment, David.
Oh these are the crossword puzzle islands! Do you get clues in your crossword puzzles along the lines of “island, west of Porirua, New Zealand?”
If I ever get to Scotland I can see I will need months to explore so much beauty and history. I can see why my brother loves to get away from Edinburgh as often as he can.
Oh dear!
No, I’ve never seen New Zealand names in crossword puzzles! I’m glad that you liked the pics – the west coast is so beautiful, in any weather.
Your islands turn up all the time in crosswords here. Now I have seen them through your camera and enthusiasm. Thank you.
Excellent! I’m glad to be of help!
